Electric Classic Cars, the world’s largest EV conversion specialist, has recently unveiled a groundbreaking plug-and-play solution for vintage pickups and SUVs. Their new modular EV chassis offers dual-motor all-wheel drive and an impressive 530 hp, making it a game-changer in the world of electric vehicle conversions.
The chassis is designed to accommodate vehicles with wheelbases ranging from 88 inches to 130 inches, making it perfect for a wide range of vintage pickup trucks and SUVs with body-on-frame construction. Models like the first-generation Land Rover Defender, Ford Bronco, and International Scout are all suitable candidates for this innovative conversion.
One of the key features of the Electric Classic Cars modular EV chassis is the use of Tesla-sourced electric motors. These motors deliver a combined output of up to 530 horsepower, significantly more power than what most of the original models offered from the factory. The platform also includes independent suspension front and rear, limited-slip differentials, and an array of electronic features including traction control, torque vectoring, and hill descent control.
In terms of battery options, Electric Classic Cars offers a 56-kilowatt-hour pack for vehicles with wheelbases between 88 and 108 inches, and an 82 kWh version for wheelbases between 108 and 130 inches. Both battery packs come with DC fast charging capabilities, ensuring quick and convenient charging for these electrified vintage vehicles.
While the inclusion of off-the-shelf Tesla Model 3 suspension parts means that these vehicles may not be suitable for extreme off-roading, Electric Classic Cars has designed the chassis to excel on the road and handle light off-road conditions. With the powerful electric motors, these converted vehicles are expected to accelerate from zero to 60 miles per hour in less than four seconds.
Electric Classic Cars has not yet released pricing information for their modular EV chassis, but they have announced plans to start shipping the chassis to restomod shops worldwide, including in the United States. Since its founding in 2015, Electric Classic Cars has gained recognition for its high-quality electric conversions of classic vehicles such as the Volkswagen Beetle, Mini, Land Rover Defender, Range Rover, and Porsche 911.
Overall, Electric Classic Cars’ new modular EV chassis is set to revolutionize the world of electric vehicle conversions, offering vintage car enthusiasts a seamless and powerful solution for electrifying their classic pickups and SUVs.
