Honda has recently unveiled the specifications for its new Japanese-market N-One e electric kei car, aiming to rival the popular Nissan Sakura electric kei car. The N-One e comes equipped with a 29.3 kWh battery, providing an impressive range of 183 miles on a single charge. This is a significant improvement compared to other kei EVs on the market.
The design of the N-One e sets it apart from its gas-powered counterpart, featuring a unique boxier design with a squared-off face and distinctive rear treatment. The battery pack used in the N-One e is slim and does not intrude into the interior space, ensuring a comfortable driving experience for occupants. Additionally, the steering wheel has been positioned 1.5 inches closer to the driver, enhancing the overall driving position.
One of the standout features of the N-One e is its bidirectional charging capability, allowing for vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-home (V2H) functionality. This enables the car to supply up to 1.5 kW of power to external devices and serve as a backup power source for a house. The V2H function can also help reduce electricity bills by charging at night when rates are lower and running off the battery during the day.
In the Japanese market, where kei cars account for 40% of all new car sales, the N-One e will face competition from the Nissan Sakura and a new all-electric kei car from BYD. Meanwhile, a version of the N-One with wider fenders and a rally car-inspired design will be launched in Europe and other markets. This model promises to deliver an exhilarating driving experience, building on Honda’s previous efforts in the subcompact EV segment.
The success of the N-One e in Europe will depend on its affordability, as competitors like the BYD Seagull offer a compelling electric city car option at an attractive price point. With a focus on performance, design, and functionality, Honda aims to establish a strong presence in the electric vehicle market with the N-One e and its upcoming models.
