Ford had a remarkable month in August, with record-breaking sales of their electric vehicles (EVs). The Mustang Mach-E, F-150 Lightning, and E-Transit contributed to this success, with a total of 10,671 units sold, marking a 19.3% increase compared to the same period last year.
The Mustang Mach-E was the standout performer, with 7,226 units sold, representing a 35.3% year-over-year growth and the highest monthly sales figure on record. Despite facing tariffs on the Mexico-built electric crossover, the 2025 Mach-E proved to be a better and more affordable option than its predecessor, the 2024 version.
In addition to the Mach-E, the F-150 Lightning saw a 21.2% increase in sales, with 3,217 units sold. However, sales of the E-Transit cargo van declined by 76% to just 228 units.
Ford’s commitment to electrification was further evident in the sales performance of their hybrid vehicles, which saw a 14.5% increase in August, with a total of 18,773 units sold. The overall electrified line-up, including hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and EVs, experienced a 16.2% growth year-over-year, totaling 29,444 units.
The success of Ford’s EV sales in August can be attributed to various factors, including the popularity of the Mustang Mach-E and the F-150 Lightning. The Mach-E received a significant refresh for the 2025 model year, becoming more cost-effective despite new tariffs. It now features a standard heat pump for improved cold-weather range and the latest BlueCruise advanced driver assistance system.
Looking ahead, analysts anticipate a surge in EV sales in the third quarter as consumers rush to claim the $7,500 federal tax credit before it expires on Sept. 30. Despite potential market slowdowns in the future, the current trend suggests sustained growth in the EV segment.
To stay competitive in the evolving EV market, Ford is gearing up to launch a new electric truck in 2027. Priced at $30,000, the truck will ride on a new architecture and utilize innovative manufacturing processes, signaling Ford’s commitment to innovation and sustainability.
Overall, Ford’s record-breaking EV sales in August underscore the company’s dedication to electrification and readiness to embrace the future of automotive technology. With a diverse line-up of EVs, hybrids, and plug-in hybrids, Ford is well-positioned to meet the evolving needs of consumers in the electrified vehicle market.
