BMW has unveiled its new iX3 50 xDrive, claiming that it will have a lower emissions footprint compared to a similar model with a combustion engine after approximately 21,500 kilometers, which is equivalent to about 13,360 miles. This means that in just a year of driving, the iX3 will already prove to be more environmentally friendly.
Despite the common misconception that electric vehicles are not as eco-friendly as gas-powered cars, BMW emphasizes that over the lifetime of the vehicle, an EV’s lack of tailpipe emissions makes it a greener choice overall. While the production of batteries for EVs can be harmful to the environment, the reduced emissions during operation offset this impact.
The breakthrough with the iX3 is that it reaches the breakeven point for CO2 emissions in just one year, a significant improvement compared to traditional EVs which usually take two to four years to reach that point. BMW credits this achievement to its efforts in optimizing the entire supply chain for its EVs.
The iX3 is designed to be an efficiency powerhouse, aiming for an energy consumption rate of approximately 4.14 miles per kilowatt-hour. This impressive figure is due to various enhancements in aerodynamics, reduced rolling resistance, and advanced power consumption management.
BMW has made significant strides in reducing the carbon footprint of the iX3 by incorporating more renewable energy sources in production, utilizing recycled materials, and improving overall efficiency. The new Gen6 batteries used in the iX3 emit 42% fewer CO2e emissions per watt hour than previous models.
The iX3 is set to be a game-changer in the EV market, boasting a range of nearly 500 miles on Europe’s WLTP cycle and featuring cutting-edge technology and performance. The vehicle will be showcased in its production form at the International Motor Show in Munich, Germany next month.
With these impressive advancements, BMW hopes to dispel the myths surrounding the environmental impact of EVs and showcase the potential for a cleaner automotive future. The iX3 represents a significant step forward in sustainable transportation and sets a new standard for eco-friendly luxury SUVs.
