The highly anticipated Tesla Roadster is finally on its way, and it seems like it might have some tough competition from Chinese automaker BYD. BYD recently unveiled the Yangwang U9 Track Edition, a souped-up version of their U9 supercar that is sure to give the Roadster a run for its money.
According to reports from CarNewsChina, the U9 Track Edition will feature a quad-motor powertrain, with each motor dedicated to one wheel. This configuration will deliver a staggering 2,977 horsepower, far surpassing the standard U9 model’s 1,287 horsepower. In terms of power, only a few cars come close, such as the Lotus Evija and the Rimac Nevera.
Comparing the U9 Track Edition to the Tesla Roadster, the Roadster is expected to have around 1,000 horsepower. The Roadster boasts a jaw-dropping 1.9-second 0-60 MPH acceleration rate, which can be reduced to 1.1 seconds with the SpaceX package. In contrast, the U9 Track Edition offers a 2.3-second acceleration time.
When it comes to projected top speed and range, the Roadster outperforms the U9 Track Edition. The Roadster is expected to reach over 250 MPH and has a range of 620 miles, while the U9 Track Edition has a conservative projection of 217 MPH and 280 miles of range.
In addition to its impressive power and performance, the U9 Track Edition will come equipped with aerodynamic enhancements like a carbon fiber rear wing, diffuser, adjustable front splitter, and optional adjustable rear wing. These features are sure to turn heads and enhance the car’s performance on the track.
As EV enthusiasts eagerly await the arrival of both the Roadster and the U9 Track Edition, there is hope that these two powerhouse vehicles will face off on a drag strip, road course, or superspeedway. The prospect of witnessing these electric supercars in action is enough to make any EV fan drool with excitement.
With both vehicles pushing the boundaries of electric vehicle performance, it’s clear that the future of high-performance EVs is brighter than ever. Stay tuned for more updates on the Tesla Roadster and the BYD Yangwang U9 Track Edition as they continue to make waves in the automotive world.
