Tesla is on the brink of launching its Full Self-Driving (Supervised) technology in Europe, with the completion of its final round of vehicle testing and submission of all necessary paperwork for regulatory approval in the Netherlands. Originally expected by late March, the approval is now targeted for April 10 by the Dutch vehicle authority, RDW. Upon approval in the Netherlands, other European countries can choose to recognize it locally, with full EU-wide approval potentially arriving as early as this summer.
The road to this milestone has been an 18-month journey of research and audits. To demonstrate the safety of the system for European roads, Tesla conducted over 1.6 million kilometres of testing across the continent and executed more than 4,500 specific track test scenarios. Additionally, the company provided 13,000 ride-alongs for customers to experience the technology in real-world conditions.
The submission includes thousands of pages of documentation covering over 400 different compliance requirements. Tesla’s team in Europe, Middle East, and Africa expressed their pride in the collaboration with regulators and their excitement to finally introduce the feature to their “patient EU customers.”
The progress towards launching Full Self-Driving in Europe marks a significant step for Tesla and the autonomous driving industry as a whole. With rigorous testing and documentation, Tesla is poised to bring cutting-edge technology to European roads, enhancing safety and convenience for drivers across the continent.
