Tesla’s Global Supply Chain Shift Brings German-Made Model Y Performance to Australian Buyers
Tesla’s strategic global supply chain adjustments are proving to be a win for Australian consumers just in time for the holiday season. The latest reports from The Driven indicate that the first German-made Tesla Model Y Performance vehicles are now being delivered in Australia, marking the introduction of the new model sourced directly from Tesla’s Giga Berlin factory.
Excitement is palpable among customers as deliveries are underway, with some lucky individuals already slated to pick up their vehicles on December 24. One enthusiastic owner described the early delivery as “a great Xmas present.” This launch follows Tesla’s recent unveiling of its revamped and fastest-ever Model Y at the Everything Electric show in Melbourne.
The Model Y Performance variant has been highly anticipated, with Tesla officially launching it in Australia back in September. Priced at $89,400 AUD before on-road costs, the new Performance model commands a premium of over $20,000 compared to the dual-motor Long Range version. However, the enhancements it brings justify the higher price tag.
Notable improvements include a significant boost in range, with the new Model Y Performance achieving a rating of 580 km WLTP, up from 514 km in the previous model. Performance has also been enhanced, thanks to a 343 kW dual-motor setup that propels the SUV from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.5 seconds. Visually, the vehicle sports a sportier front bumper, a carbon fiber rear lip spoiler, and new 21-inch wheels to replace the older Uberturbines.
The interior of the Model Y Performance boasts added carbon fiber trim, upgraded sport seats with heating and ventilation, and adaptive suspension with dedicated drive modes—features typically reserved for Tesla’s top-tier models.
The introduction of Model Y Performance shipments from Giga Berlin is expected to bolster Tesla’s presence in Australia, where the Model Y has already dominated EV sales charts for 2025 as of October. With improved availability and a refreshed lineup—including the recently launched refreshed Model 3 Long Range boasting a remarkable 750 km of WLTP-rated driving range—Tesla is clearly making a strong push in the region.
For Australian buyers seeking a blend of performance and practicality, these initial Berlin-built deliveries couldn’t have arrived at a better time. The combination of cutting-edge technology, enhanced performance, and Tesla’s commitment to sustainability makes the Model Y Performance a compelling choice for those in the market for an electric vehicle.
