- The Tesla Model Y is getting a much-needed update after six years
- The refreshed Model Y is set to arrive in the U.S. this spring
- Tesla experienced a decline in sales in 2024
Following the recent refresh of the Model 3, Tesla has now introduced an updated version of the Model Y crossover, known as Juniper, initially available in the Chinese market.
Deliveries in China and other Southeast Asian countries will begin in March, with U.S. availability expected to follow later this spring, making the Model Y Juniper a late 2025 model.
This marks the first significant update to the Model Y since its debut in 2019. The exterior design changes draw inspiration from the Tesla Cybercab, featuring a more chiseled front end, sleek headlights, and a continuous light bar at the rear.

The interior updates of the Model Y include a quieter cabin, ambient lighting, and the removal of control stalks. Additionally, heated and ventilated seats are now offered, along with a rear-seat touchscreen.
The updated Model Y is expected to feature suspension enhancements similar to the Model 3, resulting in a smoother ride. Improved fit and finish, as seen in the refreshed Model 3, are also anticipated for the Model Y update.
In the Chinese market, Tesla has increased the range and performance of the Model Y. The single-motor rear-wheel drive version now delivers 295 hp and achieves 0-62 mph in 5.3 seconds, with an estimated range of 368 miles. The dual-motor all-wheel drive version offers 446 miles of range with a 0-62 mph time of 4.3 seconds.

Tesla faced a sales decline in 2024, amidst increasing competition in the EV market. The Model Y, being Tesla’s top-selling model, is expected to play a crucial role in reviving sales with this latest update.
