Elon Musk is once again creating buzz around Tesla’s upcoming Full Self-Driving (FSD) update, teasing that version 14 of the software will be a game-changer. In a recent tweet, Musk stated that the new update “feels sentient” and will surpass the advancements seen in version 12.
The excitement surrounding FSD 14 was fueled by comments made by William Blair analyst Jed Dorsheimer, who praised Tesla’s Robotaxi rides for feeling more like a human was behind the wheel compared to Waymo’s more robotic service. Musk confirmed that Dorsheimer experienced the Robotaxi on version 13 and teased that version 14 will be the second biggest update to Tesla’s AI/Autopilot system after version 12, claiming that it “feels alive.”
Currently, Tesla’s Robotaxi fleet operates on a private branch of FSD 13, which is ahead of what regular subscribers have access to. Musk has assured that advancements made in the Robotaxi builds will eventually trickle down to public releases.
Musk revealed that FSD 14 will introduce a model with ten times more parameters than the current version, promising a significant improvement in performance. He also mentioned that once real-world safety is confirmed, the update will result in fewer driver monitoring alerts.
FSD 14 is currently undergoing training and testing, with Musk hinting at a potential public release in late September if everything goes smoothly. The update is expected to be one of the most ambitious yet, with Tesla gearing up to make self-driving technology feel more natural and human-like.
As Tesla’s Robotaxi service prepares to launch to the public next month and FSD 14 on the horizon, the company is clearly focused on advancing autonomous driving technology.
