Tesla has recently introduced a new entry-level Model Y to its Canadian lineup, providing a more affordable option for buyers in Canada. The Model Y Standard Rear-Wheel Drive is now available on Tesla’s Canadian configurator, starting at $49,990 CAD before options and incentives. This pricing makes it approximately $15,000 cheaper than the previously lowest-priced Model Y option in Canada.
The Canadian Model Y Standard is priced at around $36,000 USD, which is lower than the $39,990 USD starting price for the same trim in the United States. This pricing difference can be attributed to Tesla importing Canadian-bound Model Ys from Gigafactory Berlin, thereby avoiding hefty tariffs on U.S.-built vehicles. The Berlin-built Model Y has been making its way across Canada, offering buyers a more cost-effective option.
The Model Y Standard comes with 463 km of EPA-estimated range, a top speed of 201 km/h, and a 0-100 km/h time of 7.2 seconds. It is rear-wheel drive only, equipped with 18-inch wheels, a black textile interior, and fewer premium comfort features compared to higher trims. However, Canadian buyers will benefit from the inclusion of Basic Autopilot and FM radio, features that are missing from the U.S. version of the Model Y Standard.
Autopilot is a valuable addition, providing adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping on highways and city roads. Buyers also have the option to add Full Self-Driving for $11,000 CAD or choose Tesla’s monthly subscription. The Model Y Standard was first introduced in the U.S. last October, alongside the Model 3 Standard, and has since made its way to Europe. While a Model Y Standard was previously spotted in Canada, it is now officially available for purchase.
In addition to the Model Y Standard, Tesla has introduced a new paint option called Marine Blue, exclusive to the higher-end Premium and Performance trims in Canada. Leasing options for the Model Y Performance have also been opened up, providing buyers with more flexibility to access the top-tier version of the electric SUV.
Although the Model Y Standard is priced above a Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, it offers a compelling entry point into Tesla ownership, complete with full Supercharger access and one of the safest vehicle platforms on the market. Deliveries of the Model Y Standard are expected within four to six weeks, offering Canadian buyers a more affordable option to experience Tesla’s innovative electric vehicles.
