Tesla has recently introduced a new pinch-to-zoom and pan feature to its Dashcam Viewer, allowing drivers to zoom in on captured footage directly from their vehicle’s screen. This new functionality was spotted by user @gbhall and works across all camera angles, including the multi-camera grid view. This update eliminates the need to remove the USB drive to inspect small details in a clip.
While Tesla did not explicitly mention this feature in its release notes, it seems to have been rolled out as part of the company’s 2025 Holiday Update, starting with software version 2025.44.25.1. This update included various new features such as Grok with Navigation Commands (Beta), Paint Shop, and Tesla Photobooth, as well as improvements to the in-car Dashcam Viewer experience.
In addition to new overlays for speed, steering angle, and self-driving state, Tesla has made several undocumented improvements to the Dashcam Viewer. Owners can now check the remaining free space on their USB drive directly from the vehicle, and tapping the information icon will show which features are consuming the most storage. The ability to filter Sentry Mode clips by trigger type has also been added, making it easier to find specific footage.
The new zoom feature is particularly practical for drivers. On vehicles equipped with AMD Ryzen hardware, users can pinch to zoom and pan around the frame to inspect specific areas of the video. This is especially helpful due to Tesla’s wide-angle, fish-eye camera lenses, which can distort objects and make details like license plates harder to read.
Previously, zooming into Dashcam footage required removing the USB drive and viewing clips on a computer. With this new feature, everything can be done directly in the car. While Intel Atom vehicles may not have access to this feature yet, it is available on all AMD Ryzen vehicles, including those with HW3.
This small yet significant change enhances an already essential feature, showcasing Tesla’s commitment to continuously improving its products. It serves as a reminder that Tesla often introduces useful upgrades without much fanfare, making the driving experience more convenient and enjoyable for its customers.
