Tesla has recently introduced the Cybertruck Terrestrial Armor Package, an upgrade priced at $3,500 aimed at providing additional protection for off-road adventures. This package includes an underbody battery shield and left and right side structural rock sliders, offering enhanced defense against rocks, debris, and scrapes on challenging terrain.
The rock sliders are crafted from coated steel, while the battery shield is made from aluminum with corrugation for better impact absorption. According to Wes Morrill, Tesla’s lead Cybertruck engineer, one component of the package covers the battery for impact attenuation, while another replaces the rocker panels with structural steel rock sliders to withstand breakover contact.
Initially, the Terrestrial Armor Package is exclusive to Foundation Series Cybertrucks, which is Tesla’s limited launch edition that also comes with perks like free Supercharging in select regions. The price includes shipment to your preferred Tesla Service Center and professional installation. Availability for non-Foundation Series trucks is expected to expand in September 2025.
At present, the upgrade appears to be out of stock on Tesla’s online store, reflecting its popularity among Cybertruck owners. Behind-the-scenes footage shared by Morrill showcases Tesla engineers testing the armor in Johnson Valley, with design engineer Zach audibly reacting to heavy hits on the parts.
In addition, a two-month owner review from @ogre_codes offers a firsthand look at how the package performs under real-world conditions. The video provides valuable insights for prospective buyers considering the upgrade.
This release comes on the heels of Tesla’s decision earlier this year to cancel the planned Cybertruck Range Extender accessory, issuing refunds to pre-order customers. More recently, the Cybertruck received a new overload detection feature via software update 2025.26, aimed at helping owners avoid exceeding payload limits.
The introduction of the Terrestrial Armor Package underscores Tesla’s commitment to enhancing the Cybertruck’s off-road capabilities. Given its rapid sell-out rate, interested buyers are encouraged to act swiftly to secure their upgrade.
