Tesla has recently unveiled some exciting new features on the latest Model Y “Juniper” during an interview at one of its Northern California showrooms. Nathan Di Giusto, the Tesla Vehicle Engineering Head for the 3/Y platform, and Emmanuel Lamacchia, the Model Y’s Program Manager, shared insights with Tesla Owners Silicon Valley regarding the design changes and efficiency improvements made to the new Model Y.
The company made significant design changes to enhance the overall experience of the Model Y. Some of the key design modifications include the removal of the ‘T’ logo from the vehicle, the implementation of new rear power seats with an internally designed gearbox, and the reintroduction of the turn signal stalk based on customer feedback. Additionally, Tesla announced the introduction of new paint colors to the North American market, aiming to provide more customization options for customers.
Efficiency was a major focus for Tesla when improving the Model Y. The company made changes to the braking system to reduce drag from brake calipers, thus increasing range and efficiency. Other efficiency strategies included the use of carpeted cupholders, trunk lids, and side trim to minimize cabin noise, as well as a metallic coating on the glass roof for improved thermal performance. Tesla also optimized various components such as the HVAC fans and interior lighting to further enhance efficiency and range.
In terms of comfort, Tesla made several enhancements to ensure a smoother and quieter driving experience. The company implemented smoother and quieter closing door latches and trunk lids, wrapped interior materials to reduce cabin noise, and introduced laminated rear glass for noise reduction. Additionally, the vehicle sensors can now detect humans in the vehicle, including their heartbeats and breathing patterns, adding an extra layer of safety and convenience for passengers.
The new Model Y is set to begin deliveries in March and will initially be available in the “Launch Edition” trim starting at $59,990. With a focus on design, efficiency, and comfort, Tesla’s latest Model Y “Juniper” aims to provide an enhanced driving experience for customers.
