Tesla Unveils Sleek Cyber-Styled Server Cabinets for AI Training
Tesla recently revealed images of some cutting-edge server cabinets with a sleek Cybertruck-inspired design. The modern and futuristic look of these cabinets is truly impressive, showcasing Tesla’s commitment to innovation and style in all aspects of its operations.
The company’s AI division, Tesla AI, teased the images with the caption, “Quiet please. The machines are learning,” on X. While Tesla did not provide specific details about the purpose of these cabinets, it is widely speculated that they are part of the company’s Dojo supercomputer setup for training its Full Self-Driving (FSD) system. These cabinets are likely Dojo ExaPOD units, housing trays of interconnected D1 or possibly D2 chips that deliver massive compute power, potentially up to 1.1 exaflops per ExaPOD.
The clean wiring and futuristic design of these cabinets are a testament to Tesla’s advanced technology and attention to detail. The extensive cabling and cooling infrastructure visible in the images align with the high power and thermal demands of the Dojo supercomputer, which requires up to 2.3 MW per cluster. It is speculated that these images may be from Tesla’s Mojo Dojo Compute Hall in New York or the Dojo cluster being constructed at Giga Texas, both of which are integral to Tesla’s AI training efforts.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously shared that the company was operating 35,000 Nvidia H100 GPUs as of April 2024, with plans to increase this number to 85,000 by the end of the year. This expansion implies the purchase of an additional 50,000 H100 GPUs, with a significant portion allocated to support FSD training at Giga Texas.
In addition to Tesla’s GPU investments, Musk mentioned that xAI, a company recently acquired by Tesla, was utilizing 100,000 H100 GPUs in its Memphis Supercluster as of July 2024. Furthermore, xAI planned to deploy a massive 300,000 B200 GPU supercomputer by summer 2025, signaling a substantial purchase of 200,000 B200 GPUs for their operations.
Overall, Tesla’s unveiling of these sleek and modern server cabinets showcases the company’s dedication to pushing the boundaries of technology and AI training. With a focus on efficiency, power, and style, Tesla continues to lead the way in innovation within the automotive and technology industries.
