Tesla Superchargers UI Update to Include Detailed Street and Town Information
Tesla vehicles have always been equipped with accurate Supercharger location information. However, the navigation system has only displayed basic location details until now. This limited information can make it challenging for drivers to find the most convenient charging spot when planning their route. Tesla is addressing this issue by updating the Supercharger UI across its vehicles and the Tesla app. A forthcoming update will include specific street and city details for each Supercharger, in addition to the common name.
What’s Changing?
The upcoming update will enhance the Supercharger card in the vehicle trip planner by adding a second line below the common name, displaying the full street address and city. The common name remains essential for distinguishing Superchargers in the same area by names familiar to drivers, such as “Tyson’s Corner – Tysons, VA.” These common names will continue to be the primary identifiers for Supercharger locations. The image above illustrates the updated layout of the Supercharger list in the vehicle.
The Tesla app has recently been modified to show the common name of Superchargers instead of just the city name, aligning better with the in-vehicle display. The additional changes to include street and city details will be rolled out in the next few weeks to the in-vehicle software and the Tesla app, as per Tesla’s announcement.
It’s unclear whether these changes will be implemented server-side or require a software update for display, but Tesla owners can expect to see the updates in their vehicles soon.
Practical Example
For instance, in Kingston, Ontario, there are two Superchargers – a V2 and a V3.5, both labeled “Kingston” as the common name. Choosing between the two may depend on your direction off the highway, as the older V2 site is more visible with larger signage, while the new V3.5 site is tucked behind a shopping complex. The correct address will help you select the right Supercharger for your needs, whether it’s faster charging speeds at the V3.5 site or more affordable rates at the older V2 location.
Enhancements to Superchargers
In addition to the UI update, Tesla has been implementing various improvements to its Superchargers, including hardware and software upgrades. Recent enhancements include the addition of new accessible handles at Superchargers, as well as advertising certain locations on highway rest area signs. Tesla has also unveiled its first 500kW Supercharger site and plans to introduce Virtual Queues to streamline the charging process at busy Supercharger stations.
