Kia EVs Gain Access to Tesla Supercharger Network in the U.S.
Kia electric vehicle owners in the U.S. can now breathe a sigh of relief as they finally have access to Tesla’s extensive Supercharger network. This development comes after a delay of about four months, but it’s a game-changer for Kia customers with the EV6, EV9, or Niro EV models.
The Tesla Supercharger network is renowned for its reliability and extensive coverage across the country. With over 21,500 DC fast charging ports now accessible to Kia EV owners, range anxiety is significantly reduced. The EV6 and EV9 models come equipped with the Tesla-developed North American Charging Standard (NACS) port, allowing for seamless charging at Supercharger stations. Niro EV owners and older model year EV6s and EV9s can also use an adapter to connect to the Superchargers.
Navigation to Tesla Superchargers is made easy through the Kia infotainment system and smartphone app, providing real-time information on charger availability, status, and pricing. Enrolling in the Tesla charging program is necessary for accessing the Superchargers, which can be done through the app.
Before the integration with Tesla, Kia EV owners had access to around 22,000 public fast charging stations. With Tesla Supercharger access, this number doubles, offering a combined total of over 40,000 ports. This expanded network is set to revolutionize road trips for Kia drivers, making long journeys more convenient and hassle-free.
Kia America has emphasized the importance of Tesla Superchargers as critical infrastructure, condemning any disruptions that may impact convenient and affordable charging for their customers. The Tesla Supercharger network now supports a total of 11 brands, with more carmakers set to join in the future.
Overall, this collaboration between Kia and Tesla signifies a significant step forward in the electrification of the automotive industry. With easier access to fast charging infrastructure, Kia EV owners can enjoy a more seamless driving experience, further promoting the adoption of electric vehicles.
