Tesla is making a big move to showcase its extensive charging network by incorporating Supercharger locations on highway signs across the United States. The company recently confirmed the rollout of this initiative, with the first state-owned sign spotted along Interstate 10 in Arizona, near Exit 155.
“First highway sign with Superchargers, more to come,” Tesla Charging (@teslacharging) announced on social media, sharing an image of the new highway sign. Max de Zegher, Tesla’s Global Director of Charging, emphasized that while Tesla drivers are already aware of charging availability through their in-car navigation, many people outside the Tesla community remain unaware of the widespread Supercharger network.
In recent years, Tesla has been opening up its Supercharger network to electric vehicles from other automakers, with Porsche and Audi being among the latest to gain access. De Zegher highlighted that over 99.98% of road trips within the US are already possible in a Tesla, but this information is not widely known among the general public.
“The first state-owned highway signs showing Tesla Superchargers are now going live. We plan on rolling this out more broadly. Hopefully this helps with turning any range anxiety into range confidence for the general public,” said de Zegher.
This development coincides with Tesla’s upcoming launch of a long-awaited virtual queuing feature for Superchargers. The system, recently discovered in a software update, will enable drivers to remotely join and leave waitlists at busy stations, ultimately enhancing efficiency. Earlier this summer, de Zegher mentioned that the company was undergoing “pressure testing” of this feature.
Furthermore, Tesla has been expanding Supercharger access through various avenues. Recently, the company started selling Superchargers directly to businesses, allowing retailers, hotels, and other establishments to host their own charging stations. Additionally, Tesla is constructing the world’s first 500 kW, fully-V4 Supercharger in California, signaling a significant advancement in charging speed and infrastructure.
By integrating Superchargers into highway signs alongside traditional gas station logos, Tesla is sending a clear message: electric vehicle charging has become mainstream. This strategic move not only highlights the convenience and accessibility of Tesla’s charging network but also promotes the widespread adoption of electric vehicles.
