During the ACT Expo in Los Angeles, Tesla unveiled some exciting new details about their highly anticipated Semi fleet, including updated fleet data, a groundbreaking new feature, and expanded plans for charging infrastructure.
With over 7.9 million miles accumulated across their test fleet, Tesla showcased the impressive capabilities of the Semi. Companies like PepsiCo. and Frito Lay have praised the truck for its ability to handle long days, with drivers reporting successful 1,000-mile travel days. The first phase of production units will soon be integrated into Tesla’s logistics operations for real-world testing, paving the way for customer deliveries starting next year.
Tesla Semi’s New Feature
One of the most exciting announcements was the inclusion of a 25-kilowatt electric Power Take-Off system in the Semi. This feature will allow companies to power auxiliary functions such as refrigeration, hydraulic systems, and compressors, making it ideal for transporting perishable goods. As production ramps up and more companies take delivery of the vehicle, this feature will become increasingly valuable.
Expansion to Public and Private Charging Infrastructure
To support the charging needs of the Semi, Tesla has been working on expanding their Megacharger infrastructure. Frito-Lay, for example, is adding eight new charging piles at their Bakersfield, California, factory. Additionally, Tesla has 46 megawatt-level charging sites under construction for public use, as well as fleet sites like the one at Frito-Lay’s factory.
