Tesla Recalling 2024 and 2025 Model S and Model X Vehicles
Tesla has issued a recall for a small number of 2024 and 2025 Model S and Model X electric vehicles due to a potential safety issue with the driver’s-side airbags. The airbags in these vehicles could tear during deployment, increasing the risk of injury to occupants.
The recall affects only 294 vehicles manufactured between Nov. 6 and Nov. 27, 2024. According to the NHTSA, the airbags in these vehicles may have been damaged due to an assembly error by the supplier.

The combination of a deep fold in the airbag and the positioning of the windshield heat diffuser could lead to the airbag tearing during inflation. A torn airbag may not function properly in a crash, posing a higher risk of injury, as noted by the NHTSA.
The supplier discovered the issue during airbag testing and informed Tesla. The automaker reported no incidents of crashes, fatalities, injuries, or warranty claims related to this issue.

Tesla will replace the airbag assembly free of charge and plans to send owner notification letters on Feb. 21. Owners can also contact Tesla’s customer service at 1-877-798-3752 for more information, citing recall number SB-24-20-001.
Unlike software updates, this recall involves hardware replacement, a trend that has become more common for Tesla due to issues with the Cybertruck. Despite strong U.S. sales, Tesla experienced a global sales decline in 2024 after years of growth.
