Tesla has recently issued another recall for over 46,000 of its Cybertrucks due to a potential safety hazard. The company announced that the stainless steel cant rail trim on the Cybertruck may detach while driving, posing a risk to other motorists on the road.
The cant rail trim is a structural component of the roof that connects the pillars to the rest of the car’s frame. Tesla’s recall report explained that the stainless steel panel of the cant rail trim could separate from the vehicle due to delamination at the adhesive joint. This issue was previously identified, leading to a temporary hold on Cybertruck deliveries earlier this month.
To address the problem, Tesla has implemented a new bonding process for the cant rail trim on trucks produced after February 2025. The updated process includes a stud welded to the panel and a nut clamping the steel panel to the structure to ensure a secure attachment. The company has confirmed that the defect should only affect approximately 1% of the recalled trucks.
The recall campaign covers all model year 2024 and 2025 Cybertrucks produced through February 2025. Tesla has stated that trucks built after this date should not exhibit the defect. The company became aware of the issue in early January after receiving a field complaint from a customer. Subsequent internal engineering studies and customer reports prompted Tesla to initiate the voluntary recall.
Since the problem cannot be resolved with a software update, Tesla will need to replace the cant rail trim on all affected trucks. Fortunately, all repairs should be covered under warranty, so owners will not incur any out-of-pocket expenses. Tesla has identified over 150 warranty claims related to the cant rail trim issue and is working to address them promptly.
While the recall is a setback for Tesla and its Cybertruck owners, the company’s proactive response and commitment to resolving the issue demonstrate its dedication to safety and customer satisfaction. Owners are encouraged to contact Tesla for further information and to schedule any necessary repairs.
