Tesla recently released its fourth-quarter 2024 results, revealing a decline in electric vehicle sales but also hinting at some exciting future developments. The company announced plans to introduce new, more affordable models in the first half of 2025, utilizing aspects of both next-generation and current platforms. These new vehicles will be produced on existing manufacturing lines alongside the current lineup.
Interestingly, Tesla seems to be focusing on expanding downward with its new models, including a potential budget-friendly option. While specific details about these upcoming models are scarce, the latest investor report suggests that they may incorporate advanced features from the Cybertruck, such as steer-by-wire technology, 800V architecture, rear-wheel steering, and giga-casting.
However, it is unlikely that every innovation from the Cybertruck will be included in the new budget model. Features like air suspension and other advanced technologies may be excluded to streamline production and boost sales numbers by 60%. Despite these ambitious goals, Tesla has remained tight-lipped about the specifics of its future cheap EV during the recent earnings call and subsequent Q&A session with investors.
While investors did not press Tesla’s CEO or CFO for more information on the upcoming models, it seems that the company is keeping its cards close to the chest for now. As we eagerly await further updates, it remains to be seen if Tesla will surprise us with a budget-friendly car announcement before the middle of the year.
