Tesla is constantly looking to innovate and improve its electric vehicle charging network. The company’s Director of Charging for North America, Max de Zegher, recently revealed that Tesla is not only expanding its Supercharger network but also doing so at a remarkably low cost.
According to de Zegher, Tesla currently only spends around $40k-$45k to install one Supercharger stall. This is a significant achievement considering the efficiency and reliability of Tesla’s charging infrastructure. In comparison, a recent announcement by New York Gov. Kathy Hochul revealed that NY Green Bank and Revel completed a $60 million transaction to build 267 new charging stalls in New York City, with each stall costing approximately $224,719.
Despite the low installation costs, Tesla is not resting on its laurels. The company is working on rolling out its V4 Supercharger with V4 Cabinet, which has the capability to provide up to 500 kW per stall. Even with this increased capability, de Zegher confirmed that Tesla aims to deploy the V4 Supercharger for less than $40k per stall.
Engineering teams are working diligently to achieve this goal, with the first pilot sites expected to be operational in Q3. Despite the technical advancements and increased power output of the V4 Supercharger, Tesla remains committed to keeping the installation costs low and accessible to all users.
As Tesla continues to push the boundaries of electric vehicle charging technology, it is clear that the company is dedicated to providing a seamless and cost-effective charging experience for its customers. With the promise of 500 kW V4 Superchargers at less than $40k per stall, Tesla is setting a new standard for the industry and reaffirming its position as a leader in sustainable transportation.
