Tesla Introduces Vohico Super App for Chinese Market
Recent findings from a firmware analysis by hacker Greentheonly have revealed Tesla’s plans to launch a new video integration app specifically for the Chinese market, known as Vohico. This strategic move is in line with Tesla’s ongoing efforts to cater to the unique needs of Chinese consumers, who represent one of the company’s key markets.
In the past, Tesla successfully integrated WeChat applets in China, offering customers a range of convenient features such as audio playback, mobile payments, and messaging capabilities.
Understanding Vohico
Vohico, a popular video app in China, is owned by ByteDance, the same company behind the global sensation TikTok. Combining elements from various apps, Vohico offers a user-friendly interface designed for modern vehicles.
This innovative app grants users access to China’s beloved short-form video platform Douyin (TikTok) and the longer-format Xigua Video (Watermelon).
By integrating a leading super app like Vohico directly into Tesla vehicles, the company aims to attract more buyers in a competitive market where alternative car options are often more affordable due to government subsidies.
Support for Intel & AMD
Notably, the Vohico integration will extend beyond vehicles equipped with MCU 3 (AMD) to also include vehicles with MCU 2 (Intel) infotainment systems in China.
Tesla has recently introduced significant updates exclusively for AMD-equipped vehicles, such as Grok, the new Dashcam Viewer, High-Fidelity Park Assist, and additional gaming options. While AMD vehicles receive priority for new features, Tesla’s decision to include Vohico in Intel vehicles underscores its commitment to supporting older vehicle models.
These incremental enhancements, like the luxury utility designation for the Model Y L, demonstrate Tesla’s dedication to remaining competitive in China’s dynamic automotive market.
