Tesla has made a significant update to its charging experience by now allowing users to view the occupancy status of select third-party chargers in Europe. This new feature is part of Tesla’s Qualified Third-Party Charger Program, aimed at providing more information and convenience to electric vehicle owners.
Previously, Tesla users could only see the occupancy status of Tesla Supercharger stations. Now, when navigating to a third-party charger in the Tesla app or vehicle, users can see the total number of stalls, the number of stalls currently occupied, and the maximum charge speed of the stations at the site.
Enhanced Charging Experience
While the third-party occupancy system may not be as advanced as Tesla’s prediction-based system for Superchargers, it still offers a premium experience that aligns with Tesla’s high standards. Users can easily identify third-party charger sites on the map, indicated by a grey bubble with the number of free stalls available.
Moreover, Tesla’s Qualified Third-Party Charger Program sets strict criteria for third-party charging providers to participate in the program. Providers must have at least one compatible charging connector, frequent use by Tesla drivers, and a high charge success rate of 90% or higher over a 60-day period.
Expanding Access to Charging Stations
While the program is currently limited to Europe and China, Tesla has plans to expand it to North America, allowing more drivers to benefit from the convenience of accessing third-party charging stations through Tesla’s navigation system.
Reliable charging infrastructure is crucial for the widespread adoption of electric vehicles, and Tesla continues to lead the way in providing seamless and efficient charging solutions. The addition of third-party charger occupancy status further enhances the overall charging experience for Tesla owners.
We are excited to see how this new feature will improve the charging experience for electric vehicle owners worldwide. Special thanks to Daniel Albrecht for bringing this update to our attention.
