Tesla’s Giga Shanghai factory is gearing up to begin mass production of an updated version of the Model Y next month, as reported by Chinese media outlet LatePost via CnEVPost. This refreshed Model Y is set to bring changes to its interior, exterior, battery capacity, motor performance, and self-driving technology, much like the upgrades seen in the revamped Model 3, also known as the Model 3 Highland.
In addition to this facelifted version, Tesla has plans to introduce a six-seat Model Y later in 2025, expanding its lineup even further. The updated five-seat Model Y, codenamed “Juniper,” is expected to start deliveries in 2025.
With an annual production capacity of about 1 million vehicles, Giga Shanghai currently manufactures the Model 3 and Model Y. The previous update to the Model Y in October 2023 brought features such as ambient lighting, updated dashboard trim, and new wheels, but the overall design remained relatively unchanged.
The upcoming facelift is anticipated to bring even more upgrades, potentially enticing current Model Y owners to consider upgrading to the refreshed version. This may be especially appealing to owners with cars equipped with Hardware 3 (AI3), as opposed to the newer Hardware 4 (AI4) that receives early access to Full Self-Driving 13.
Overall, Tesla’s continuous innovation and updates to its lineup demonstrate the company’s commitment to pushing boundaries in the electric vehicle market. The refreshed Model Y is poised to offer improved features and technology, further solidifying Tesla’s position as a leader in the automotive industry.
