Impressive Mileage Milestone for Western Australian Tesla Model 3
A Tesla Model 3 in Western Australia has caught the attention of the global electric vehicle community by achieving an incredible 410,000 kilometers (254,000 miles) on its original battery and motor. Even more impressive is the fact that the vehicle still maintains around 90% of its original battery health.
This particular 2021 Model 3 Standard Plus is equipped with a 60 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery and has been utilized as an Uber rideshare vehicle. According to EV Workz, an EV specialist in Port Kennedy, the car’s Battery Management System (BMS) indicates a State of Health ranging between 88% and 90%.
EV Workz owner, Edi Gutmanis, shared these remarkable findings on the ‘Electric Vehicles For Australia’ Facebook page on August 8, which quickly garnered widespread attention. The Model 3’s charging history reveals that 29% of the total energy (15,556 kWh) was delivered via DC fast charging, while 71% (38,012 kWh) came from AC charging.
Gutmanis also calculated the potential fuel savings achieved by the Model 3. A traditional petrol car covering the same distance at 7L/100km and $1.70 per liter would cost an estimated AU$50,000 in fuel. In comparison, charging the Tesla using average commercial rates would amount to approximately AU$20,737, and only AU$13,000 if utilizing Western Australia’s EV tariff. This translates to a potential refueling saving of around $37,000, excluding the maintenance costs associated with internal combustion engines.
Simple Maintenance Yields Impressive Results
The Model 3 was brought to EV Workz due to a driveline “judder” issue, as reported by EV Central Australia. Upon inspection, Gutmanis discovered that the root cause was worn motor mount bushes. With seven hours of labor and $130 in parts, the necessary repairs were made, restoring the car to its original driving condition.
Gutmanis, whose business specializes in EV conversions for classic and 4×4 vehicles, emphasized that these results are not unexpected. “We anticipate this level of longevity with EV batteries,” he stated, highlighting that this Model 3 represents the highest-mileage example he has come across in Australia.
