Tesla’s Model 3 Performance Exceeds EPA Range Estimates in Real-World Test
When it comes to electric vehicles, range is a crucial factor for consumers. Tesla, known for its innovative electric cars, has often faced criticism when its vehicles fail to meet their EPA range estimates in real-world tests. However, in a recent review by automotive site Edmunds, the reengineered Tesla Model 3 Performance not only met but exceeded its EPA range estimates.
According to the Tesla order page, the reengineered Model 3 Performance boasts an EPA-estimated range of 303 miles per charge. Edmunds conducted a real-world range test and found that the vehicle actually traveled 307 miles on a single charge, achieving an impressive consumption rate of 29 kWh per 100 miles.
This performance was a pleasant surprise for Edmunds, as previous Tesla models they reviewed often fell short of their EPA range estimates. For example, the 2018 Model 3 Performance only managed to travel 256 miles in their range test, despite having an EPA-estimated range of 310 miles per charge.
The reengineered Model 3 Performance was not the only Tesla vehicle to exceed its EPA range estimates in Edmunds’ tests. The Tesla Cybertruck Foundation Series AWD with All Terrain Tires, listed with an EPA-estimated range of 318 miles, actually traveled 334 miles during their range test, showcasing impressive efficiency for a vehicle of its size with all-terrain tires.
This trend of exceeding EPA range estimates was also observed in a recent extreme range test conducted by EV group Out of Spec Studios. The reengineered Tesla Model 3 AWD was able to travel 370 miles at 70 mph, surpassing its EPA-estimated range of 341 miles per charge.
Overall, these results highlight Tesla’s commitment to improving the range and efficiency of their electric vehicles. The reengineered Model 3 Performance’s ability to exceed its EPA range estimates in real-world tests is a testament to Tesla’s ongoing efforts to push the boundaries of electric vehicle technology.
