The Tesla Model 3 AWD has been making waves in the electric vehicle market, with the reengineered version proving to be a standout performer. Out of Spec Studios recently conducted a full range test comparing the new Model 3 to its predecessor, and the results were impressive.
Both the reengineered and previous-generation Model 3 Long Range Dual Motor AWD were put to the test, with both vehicles having similar batteries and motors. The test involved charging both cars to full capacity and running them until they were completely drained, all while maintaining a speed of 70 mph on the highway.
The results of the test were nothing short of remarkable. The older Model 3 AWD managed to travel close to 300 miles before giving out, a respectable distance considering its age. Adjusting for factors like battery degradation, it was estimated that the previous generation Model 3 could have gone up to 310 miles before stopping.
In contrast, the reengineered Tesla Model 3 Long Range AWD exceeded expectations by a long shot. Blowing past its EPA-estimated range of 341 miles, the new Model 3 traveled an impressive 370 miles at 70 mph during the test. This performance was even more impressive considering that it was equipped with the same battery as its older counterpart.
Kyle Conner, one of the hosts of Out of Spec Studios, noted that the new Model 3 went 60 miles farther than the old model in a side-by-side comparison, even after accounting for battery degradation. This is a clear indication of the improvements made to the latest version of the Model 3.
With the reengineered Model 3 proving its efficiency and range capabilities, it raises the question of how well the Model 3 Long Range Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) would perform in a similar test. The results of this full range test highlight the advancements Tesla has made in improving the range and performance of their vehicles.
