Euro NCAP has recently announced its Best-in-Class cars for 2025, with the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y taking the top spots in their respective categories. These results come after a year of extensive testing by Euro NCAP, as automakers continue to introduce more electric vehicles and advanced driver assistance systems.
The refreshed Tesla Model 3 was named the Best Large Family Car, while the Model Y was awarded Best Small SUV. Both vehicles received five-star safety ratings and excelled in Euro NCAP’s four core assessment areas: Adult Occupant, Child Occupant, Vulnerable Road User, and Safety Assist.
Euro NCAP praised the Model 3 for its strong performance in Child Occupant protection and continued enhancements in driver assistance features. The Model Y was described as “the gold standard for small SUVs,” standing out in both Child Occupant protection and Safety Assist testing.
Dr. Michiel van Ratingen, Euro NCAP Secretary General, emphasized the importance of naming Best-in-Class cars to help consumers easily identify top-performing vehicles. Despite the challenges of 2025, the car industry has remained focused on improving vehicle safety.
While Tesla narrowly missed out on the overall Best Performer of 2025 title, which was awarded to the Mercedes-Benz CLA, the competition was close. Dr. Michiel noted that Tesla was only slightly behind, highlighting the benefits of increased global competition for safety-conscious consumers.
These latest accolades add to Tesla’s impressive safety record, with the Model Y earning a five-star Euro NCAP rating and being named an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ in 2025. Even the unconventional Cybertruck secured a five-star NHTSA safety rating, showcasing Tesla’s commitment to safety across its vehicle lineup.
Euro NCAP also highlighted the increasing safety performance of electric vehicles compared to traditional gas-powered cars. Dr. Aled Williams, Programme Director at Euro NCAP, noted that EVs are not just matching but often exceeding the safety standards of traditional vehicles, offering reassurance to buyers considering the switch to electric.
As safety technology advances and new testing standards are set for 2026, Tesla’s recent achievements demonstrate the company’s ongoing commitment to setting a high standard in vehicle safety. With competition and expectations on the rise, Tesla continues to lead the way in prioritizing safety in the automotive industry.
