Tesla has once again secured the top spot in J.D. Power’s annual U.S. Electric Vehicle Experience (EVX) Public Charging Study, marking its fifth consecutive win since the rankings were introduced in 2021. The latest 2025 edition of the survey reveals that America’s EV charging network is becoming more reliable overall, with only 14% of EV drivers reporting an unsuccessful charging visit — a significant improvement from the 19% reported last year and the lowest rate since tracking began.
Tesla’s Supercharger network led all DC fast charging providers with an impressive score of 709 out of 1,000, well above the segment average of 654. However, this score represents a 22-point drop from the previous year, which J.D. Power attributes to the increasing number of non-Tesla owners utilizing the network through the company’s NACS expansion. While Tesla drivers benefit from tightly integrated hardware, software, and payment systems, non-Tesla drivers, who often pay more, reported lower satisfaction levels, particularly concerning charging costs.
In the rankings of other charging networks, Red E secured second place with 668 points, followed by ChargePoint (619), Electrify America (601), and EVgo (579). Blink fell behind with 501 points. Despite matching Tesla’s satisfaction score, Rivian’s Adventure Network, Ford Charge, and Mercedes-Benz Charging Network were excluded from the rankings due to their smaller footprint.
Tesla also excelled in the Level 2 charging category, with its Destination Charging network scoring 661, surpassing the segment average of 607. This victory adds to Tesla’s track record of J.D. Power accolades, including recognition for EV home charging experience and EV mobile app quality.
While network reliability has seen improvements, satisfaction with charging costs is on the decline, with prices emerging as a growing concern for both Level 2 and DC fast charging users. The key takeaway from the study is clear: speed isn’t everything — reliability, ease of use, and affordability will be crucial factors as EV adoption continues to increase.
Overall, Tesla’s continued dominance in the EV charging space highlights the company’s commitment to providing a seamless and efficient charging experience for its customers, setting a high standard for other charging networks to strive towards in the evolving electric vehicle landscape.
