Tesla Introduces Real-Time Charging Alerts With iOS Live Activities – More Features on the Way
Tesla has rolled out an update to its Tesla app on iPhones, bringing it to version 4.45.0 and introducing a useful new feature – Live Activities.
Live Activities are interactive notifications that provide real-time information, allowing users to stay updated on their vehicle’s charging progress rather than just receiving a static notification.
Key Features of Live Activities
With Tesla’s initial implementation, Live Activities will display various charging details while you’re Supercharging, including time remaining until charging completion, current range, estimated cost, and more. The notification will also feature a photo of your vehicle in the chosen color, along with a charge meter indicating the current charge level.
Additional information displayed includes:
- Time left to charge completion
- Charge/range in miles or percentage
- Estimated cost
- Current Supercharger power
- Current Supercharger speed
- Total energy added
Future Enhancements
Tesla plans to expand Live Activities beyond Supercharging, potentially including support for roadside assistance updates and a Supercharger queue system. This system will notify users when it’s their turn to charge, eliminating the need to physically line up at busy Supercharger stations.
The Tesla app is already being updated to support these upcoming features, including a virtual Supercharger queue system.
Enhanced User Experience
Dynamic Island
For users with compatible devices, the Tesla app will display a circular indicator with charge percentage and estimated time remaining on the Dynamic Island feature.
Apple Watch Support
Apple Watch users will also benefit from Live Activities, receiving real-time charging information directly on their wrist.
Android Compatibility
While Live Activities have been exclusive to iPhone users, Android will soon introduce similar capabilities with the upcoming release of Android 16. This update will bring rich notifications akin to Live Activities to Android devices.
Overall, the addition of live notifications for Supercharging is a welcome enhancement, and Android users can look forward to enjoying this feature in the near future.
