Tesla has recently introduced a new safety feature for the Cybertruck with the latest software update 2025.26. The update includes an overload detection system that alerts drivers if they exceed the vehicle’s load rating, providing valuable guidance for towing and hauling to ensure safety.
The software update, which began rolling out last month, also introduced Grok 4 AI to Tesla vehicles. With this new feature, Cybertrucks can now detect when their rear axle is overloaded and provide specific instructions to the user. If the system detects excess weight, a message will appear on the screen notifying the driver that the rear axle load exceeds the recommended limit and advising them to remove cargo or rebalance the trailer to prevent damage. Owners using a weight-distributing hitch will also benefit from improved balance and safety.
While Tesla has not disclosed the exact workings of the overload detection system, it is likely powered by a combination of air suspension data and rear motor feedback. By analyzing the pressure required to maintain the truck’s level or monitoring torque and strain on the rear axle, the Cybertruck can estimate the amount of weight it is carrying without the need for additional sensors.
This latest feature showcases Tesla’s commitment to enhancing vehicles through over-the-air software updates. It follows recent reports of the Cybertruck performing exceptionally well in crash tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), with a comprehensive safety report expected soon.
The addition of overload detection further solidifies the Cybertruck’s reputation as a rugged and practical electric truck, setting it apart from traditional pickups that lack real-time intelligence capabilities. As Tesla continues to refine its first electric truck, we can anticipate more user-driven upgrades like this in the future.
