Tesla has introduced a new feature just in time for the holiday season — the ability for owners in the United States to gift one-month Full Self-Driving (Supervised) subscriptions. The new “One Month FSD (Supervised) Gift Card” is now available in the Tesla Shop for $112, covering the monthly cost of FSD (Supervised) including up to 13% sales tax. However, Tesla notes that the gift card may not fully cover the subscription if pricing or taxes change.
This announcement comes after Tesla Vice President Raj Jegannathan confirmed last month that the company was working on enabling FSD subscription gifting before the holidays, as promised. This new feature allows Tesla fans to gift access to FSD (Supervised) in an official and native way, unlike the previous ad-hoc solutions like digital gift cards or reimbursements.
The timing of this launch couldn’t be better as FSD (Supervised) continues to evolve rapidly with the latest version, FSD 14.2.1, even allowing users to text behind the wheel in certain low-complexity driving scenarios. This controversial but significant step forward highlights Tesla’s dedication to pushing the boundaries of autonomous driving technology.
With the introduction of subscription gifting, Tesla owners can now give their friends and family the gift of autonomous driving this Christmas. This feature also aligns with Tesla’s international expansion of FSD (Supervised), as the company recently launched the service in South Korea, its seventh market.
For those who haven’t experienced FSD (Supervised) yet, Tesla is currently offering a free trial for HW4-equipped vehicles across North America, providing eligible owners with full access to the system during the holiday season. This new gifting option aims to expose more drivers to FSD (Supervised) and potentially convert skeptics as Tesla continues to enhance its autonomy capabilities and work towards its long-term goals.
As subscription gifting becomes more prevalent, it could play a crucial role in broadening the adoption of FSD (Supervised) and further cement Tesla’s position as a leader in autonomous driving technology.
