Tesla Introduces Convenient Third-Party Charge Cable Release Shortcut in Latest Update
Tesla has unveiled a new feature in its latest software update, 2025.20, that will make life easier for Model 3 and Model Y owners who use third-party charging cables. These cables typically do not have a button to easily stop charging and unlock the connector, requiring users to access the Tesla app or in-car controls to do so.
With the introduction of this shortcut, users can now simply pull and hold the rear left door handle next to the charge port for three seconds to stop the charging session and unlock the cable or adapter. This feature is especially useful for owners using adapters like the J1772 or CCS to NACS adapters, which may not unlatch with the press of a button on the cable.
How It Works
Since Tesla locks the charging cable or adapter in place while the vehicle is charging or locked, this new feature can only be activated when the vehicle is unlocked or when a key, such as a phone, is nearby.
While this may seem like a minor enhancement, it will greatly benefit those who rely on third-party chargers on a daily basis. The feature is included in Tesla’s latest update, which is currently being rolled out to customers in select regions.
