Tesla has introduced a new trim level of the popular Model Y in the United States, offering a more affordable option for customers. The new Long Range All-Wheel-Drive version, known as “Juniper,” starts at $48,990 before the $7,500 federal tax credit. This marks the first time Tesla has launched a non-Launch Series version of the Model Y in the US.
The Long Range All-Wheel-Drive trim of the Model Y boasts impressive specs, including a range of 327 miles and a top speed of 125 MPH. While it has a slightly slower acceleration rate of 4.6 seconds from 0-60 MPH compared to the Launch Series version, it still offers a thrilling driving experience. One key difference is that Full Self-Driving (FSD) is not included in this trim, requiring an additional $8,000 for those who wish to add it. Tesla also offers a monthly subscription service for FSD at $99 per month.
Production of the new Model Y trim has already begun at Gigafactory Texas, with Tesla ramping up manufacturing to meet demand. This move comes after the company reported lower-than-expected delivery figures for Q1, citing production line shutdowns for the Model Y redesign as a contributing factor. Inventory levels were high, with production outpacing deliveries by nearly 22,000 vehicles. However, Tesla is expected to provide more insight into these numbers during its upcoming earnings call on April 22.
The availability of a more affordable Model Y trim in the US market is likely to attract a wider range of customers and drive sales for Tesla. With its impressive range, performance, and cutting-edge technology, the Model Y continues to be a top choice in the electric vehicle market. As Q2 kicks off, all eyes will be on Tesla as it navigates through production challenges and strives to meet customer demand for its latest offerings.
