Tesla is making significant strides in expanding its electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure beyond its well-known Supercharger network. In recent months, over 158 new Tesla Wall Connector for Business sites have been activated worldwide, with more than 1,250 new Wall Connector chargers installed at commercial locations.
The information was shared by experienced Tesla observer Sawyer Merritt, who highlighted that these installations are entirely funded by businesses themselves. Unlike Tesla’s Supercharger network, where Tesla typically covers the costs of infrastructure, the Wall Connector for Business program positions charging as both a customer amenity and a potential revenue stream for property owners.
Tesla promotes the Wall Connector for Business program directly to businesses on its official website, emphasizing the benefits of joining their charging network. The program is open to businesses in various sectors, including apartment complexes, workplaces, hospitality businesses, fleets, and retail stores. The Level 2 chargers are suitable for locations where drivers park for extended periods, catering to both Tesla and other EV drivers.
The installation process is designed to be straightforward for businesses, with Tesla pairing them with a Certified Installer. Once operational, businesses can adjust their site visibility and pricing, with Tesla handling billing and revenue distribution. A $0.03/kWh fee is charged to cover support and processing, but if pay-per-use is disabled, Tesla’s software is provided free of charge.
This expansion of the Wall Connector for Business program complements Tesla’s broader charging strategy, which includes selling white-label Superchargers directly to businesses and expanding its own Supercharger network. By offering fast DC charging for the road and destination charging options for businesses, Tesla is quietly adding thousands of new charging plugs to the global EV grid.
Overall, Tesla’s efforts are aimed at building a comprehensive charging ecosystem that serves both Tesla owners and EV drivers more broadly. The company’s focus on expanding charging options and increasing accessibility to charging infrastructure demonstrates its commitment to supporting the widespread adoption of electric vehicles.
