Recent updates from Tesla have introduced a new feature allowing users to report Supercharger issues, addressing concerns such as lighting, accessibility, and cleanliness. In response to feedback from the X Supercharger Community, Max de Zegher, Director of Charging, North America, confirmed that one of the most requested features – Arrival State of Charge – will soon be available.
This new feature has been made possible through a significant overhaul of Tesla’s Trip Planner, as highlighted by Wes Morrill, lead engineering for the Cybertruck. The revamped Trip Planner not only enhances accuracy but also empowers users to select their desired arrival charge percentage.
Enhanced Accuracy in Trip Planning
When setting a destination in your Tesla, the vehicle will calculate the optimal charging stops required based on various factors. This seemingly simple process involves complex calculations to provide accurate information to the driver.
Tesla’s Trip Planner considers multiple variables such as driving efficiency, wind conditions, terrain elevation, traffic patterns, vehicle speed, ambient temperature, and Supercharger availability. With the recent backend improvements, the Trip Planner now offers even more precise predictions for charging stops.
These enhancements are primarily server-side, ensuring that all Tesla vehicles benefit from the improved accuracy without the need for a software update.
Arrival State of Charge Feature
Alongside the Trip Planner improvements, Tesla is gearing up to introduce a highly requested feature – the ability for users to select their desired state of charge upon arrival at their destination.
Previously, Tesla’s Trip Planner focused on getting drivers to their destination quickly, often resulting in a low state of charge upon arrival. While this was acceptable for destinations with charging facilities, it posed challenges for locations without nearby chargers.
Max de Zegher acknowledged the demand for a selectable arrival state of charge, with Wes later confirming that the Trip Planner enhancements now pave the way for additional features like the “desired arrival charge.”
Anticipated Release Timeline
The recent comments from Max de Zegher and Wes Morrill suggest that the Arrival State of Charge feature may not be included in the upcoming Holiday Update. However, Tesla hinted at its potential inclusion in a previous app update, indicating that the feature is in the pipeline.
While users had hoped for the feature in the Holiday Update, it appears that the Arrival State of Charge functionality will likely be rolled out shortly after the holiday season.
