Tesla Holiday Update Wishlist – Tesla App Edition
With Halloween behind us, it’s time to look ahead to the next big holiday – Christmas. Tesla enthusiasts eagerly anticipate the annual Holiday update, packed with exciting features. Last year’s update introduced game-changing features like alternate routes, the Vision upgrade for Park Assist, Speed Cameras and Traffic Light icons, and the Automatic Blind Spot indicator.
The upcoming update, 2024.44 – the Holiday Update Branch, promises Blind Spot Monitoring while Parked, Supercharger Improvements, and more. However, we have a slew of innovative ideas that we hope will make it onto the list. So, put down your pumpkin spice latte and grab your eggnog, as we gear up to celebrate Cybertruck’s first Christmas!
Apple Watch App
One of the most requested features over the past couple of years has been the Apple Watch app. It seems like Tesla has been listening, with reports indicating that development has already begun to support the Apple Watch in app update 4.38. We’re eagerly anticipating this addition to the big Holiday update and hope to see an equivalent app for Android-based watches as well.
Phone Left on Charger Alert
It’s all too easy to forget your phone inside the vehicle, especially if it’s on the phone dock. A simple app alert notifying users if a phone has been left in the car would be incredibly helpful. Tesla could even differentiate between the driver’s phone and the passenger’s phone based on the vehicle’s profile or door status.
Live Activities
iOS introduced support for Live Activities with iOS 16.1, offering auto-updating, persistent notifications for real-time information. Tesla could leverage this feature for instances where up-to-date information is crucial, such as during Supercharging or when Sentry Mode is active.
Arrival State of Charge
Many Tesla owners have requested the ability to set a desired battery charge percentage upon arriving at a destination. While the app’s Trip Planner now includes features like waypoints, it does not allow users to select the state of charge at their destination. This enhancement would be particularly useful for trips to locations without nearby charging stations.
Light Show Support
Tesla Lightshows are a hit, but they could be even better with Tesla app support. The ability to start, schedule, or stop a light show from the app would be a welcome addition. Additionally, incorporating a simplified version of the xLights app within the Tesla app could make creating light shows more accessible to a broader audience.
Precondition Battery Button
Similar to the in-vehicle preconditioning button for third-party chargers, the Tesla App should feature a button to precondition the battery. This convenience would make it easier for users without home charging to prepare their vehicles for DC Fast Charging before heading out.
Garage Door Controls
While Tesla owners with HomeLink can control their garage doors from the vehicle, the Tesla app currently only allows users to open the first programmed garage door. Adding the option to choose which garage door to open via the HomeLink button would be a valuable addition, especially when paired with Actually Smart Summon.
Drive Stats
In addition to recording and displaying charging sessions, it would be beneficial for the Tesla app to track drive statistics. This feature would enable users to monitor their vehicle’s usage over specific time frames easily.
If you have any other suggestions, feel free to share them in our forums. Who knows, maybe some Tesla product managers are listening!
