With December quickly approaching, Tesla enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the highly anticipated Holiday update. Each year, this special software release brings new features and festive touches to Tesla vehicles. If you’re unfamiliar with Tesla’s holiday updates, take a look at some of the exciting features that have been included in previous years.
While leaked details like Blind Spot Monitoring While Parked suggest thoughtful enhancements, the true excitement lies in the unexpected surprises. From rumored features like an Apple Watch app to a smart assistant, the possibilities are endless.
In this installment of our series, we’re exploring ways Tesla could enhance the charging experience and introduce new safety features. Let’s dive in.
Destination State of Charge
Currently, navigating to a destination in your Tesla is straightforward. The vehicle will guide you on when and where to charge, but you often arrive with a low state of charge. The ability to set your destination state of charge would revolutionize road-tripping convenience, especially with Tesla’s Supercharger network. Recent hints in Tesla’s app update suggest that this feature might be on the horizon. A holiday surprise, perhaps?
Battery Precondition Options
While Tesla already preconditions the battery for fast charging as needed, there are situations where manual preconditioning could be beneficial. Currently, there is no way to precondition for third-party chargers without navigating to a nearby Supercharger. This limitation can lead to slower charging times, especially for unlabelled chargers.
In Europe, users can navigate to and precondition for Qualified Third Party Chargers, but not for unlabelled ones.
Live Activities
As mentioned in our Tesla app wishlist, Live Activities would be valuable during Supercharging sessions. These real-time updates are ideal for monitoring information that changes frequently, making them perfect for avoiding idle fees while charging.
Vehicle-to-Load / Vehicle-to-Home Functionality
The Cybertruck introduced Tesla Power Share, enabling Vehicle-to-Home functionality (V2H). This feature allows an EV to supply power to a home, offering backup power during outages and reducing energy costs by utilizing stored energy during peak rates. Extending this capability to the entire Tesla lineup would be a welcome addition.
A third party recently demonstrated bidirectional charging on current Tesla vehicles, showcasing the potential for V2H functionality.
Adaptive Headlights for North America
While Adaptive Headlights have been available in Europe and China, North America is still awaiting this feature. The VP of Vehicle Engineering has confirmed that Adaptive Headlights are on their way to North America soon.
Blind Spot Indication with Ambient Lighting
Integrating ambient lighting with the Blind Spot Warning system would add practical functionality to existing features like ambient lighting in the 2024 Highland Model 3 Refresh and Cybertruck. This enhancement could visually alert drivers to vehicles in their blind spots, enhancing safety on the road.
