Tesla has officially teased its upcoming Model Y L in a new video posted Monday on Chinese social media platform Weibo, saying the six-seater SUV is “coming soon” in China. The teaser offers a closer look at how the larger Model Y differs from the base variant, highlighting new interior and comfort-focused upgrades.
Among the notable additions are a black headliner, a first for any Model Y variant, redesigned front seats with adjustable headrests, and added leg-rest support. The second row now features captain chairs with powered armrests, while both the second and third rows include power-foldable seats.
Tesla has also added armrests and cupholders in the third row, along with new air vents on the pillars — two for the second row and two for the third — ensuring improved airflow for all passengers. A larger rear spoiler rounds out the exterior tweaks.
The Model Y L was announced last month as a six-seat variant of Tesla’s all-electric SUV. Nearly 5 meters long with a 3.04-meter wheelbase, the SUV is set to enter volume production at Tesla’s Shanghai Gigafactory this fall. According to regulatory filings with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the Model Y L will deliver up to 751 km of CLTC-rated range from an 82 kWh LG NMC battery, paired with dual motors outputting 142 kW at the front and 198 kW at the rear.
The teaser follows multiple sightings of uncovered Model Y L units across China over the weekend, suggesting Tesla is ramping up production and a launch could be imminent. The vehicle was previously spotted testing in both China and Germany, but those prototypes were camouflaged. While the Model Y L is currently expected to remain exclusive to China, Tesla will likely expand availability if it proves successful.
Last week, Tesla also launched the new Model 3 “Plus” in China, which was announced alongside the Model Y L in July and boasts a record 830 km of CLTC-rated range.
Overall, Tesla’s upcoming Model Y L promises to offer a blend of luxury and performance, with a focus on comfort and advanced features. Stay tuned for more updates on the official launch and availability of this highly anticipated electric SUV.
