For years, Tesla vehicles have offered games through Tesla Arcade, but now, thanks to Google’s YouTube Playables, Tesla owners have access to 75 new full-screen games. YouTube Playables allow users to enjoy games directly from their web browser, whether they are on their phone, computer, or even in their vehicle.
The new Playables collection includes popular mobile game adaptations such as Cut the Rope, Chess, Daily Crossword, and Element Blocks, among others.
Accessing the Games
To access the new games in your Tesla, simply open the YouTube app in Tesla Theater. Users are required to sign in to use Playables. Once signed in, navigate to Playables or search for “YouTube Playables.” The list of games will appear as a horizontal bar, with a “See All” button on the right side.
Currently, there are over 75 games available on YouTube Playables, with more expected to be added in the future.
Playing in Full Screen or Windowed Mode
With Tesla allowing YouTube to be opened in a full-screen window, players can enjoy games in full screen, similar to Tesla’s other Arcade titles. Alternatively, users can play games in a smaller windowed version by tapping the icon in the top-left corner, allowing access to other vehicle controls such as climate settings.
Game Compatibility
YouTube Playables are compatible with both Intel and AMD vehicles and do not require any downloads. While there may be some lag on Intel-based cars, most games are still enjoyable on older MCU systems. Loading times may be slower on Intel vehicles compared to AMD vehicles. All games utilize the vehicle’s touchscreen and do not currently support controllers, as they are mobile game adaptations designed for touchscreen devices.
The Future of Gaming on Tesla
Following the removal of Steam from newer vehicles and the introduction of YouTube’s 75+ browser-based games, Tesla’s gaming strategy may shift. While YouTube Playables may not offer the same level of gaming experience as Steam, most users are content with casual gaming while in their cars. With access to nearly a hundred games, Tesla may focus on other features or unique gaming experiences like Beach Buggy Racing – Supercharger Races, where players can compete for the fastest lap at their local Supercharger.
