Tesla Unveils New Data and Features for Semi Truck at ACT Expo
At the ACT Expo in Los Angeles, Tesla made exciting announcements regarding its highly anticipated Semi truck. The company shared new fleet data, highlighted a game-changing feature, and outlined plans for infrastructure expansion.
With over 7.9 million miles covered by its test fleet, Tesla showcased the impressive performance of the Semi. Notable companies like PepsiCo and Frito Lay praised the truck for its ability to handle long-distance journeys, with drivers even completing 1,000-mile travel days.
Production of the Semi is on track, with plans to build 50,000 units annually at a new factory in Reno, Nevada by late 2025. The first phase of production units will undergo real-world testing in Tesla’s logistics operations before customer deliveries commence next year.
New Feature: Electric Power Take-Off System
One of the most significant features of the Tesla Semi is its 25-kilowatt electric Power Take-Off system. This system allows companies to power auxiliary features such as refrigeration, hydraulic systems, and compressors, making it ideal for transporting perishable goods on long hauls.
As production ramps up and more companies adopt the Semi, this feature will play a crucial role in enhancing the truck’s versatility and utility.
Expansion of Charging Infrastructure
The Tesla Semi relies on the Megacharger for its charging needs, with numerous sites already operational. Frito Lay is expanding its Megacharger infrastructure by installing eight new chargers at its Bakersfield, California factory.
Additionally, Tesla has 46 megawatt-level charging sites under construction for public use, along with ongoing development of fleet charging sites. The company is committed to building a robust charging network to support the widespread adoption of electric trucks like the Semi.
