Tesla (TSLA) has made a significant change in its Full Self-Driving (FSD) AI software offerings. As of February 14th, the automaker has officially ended the option to outright purchase the FSD software. However, customers can still access the FSD software by purchasing a new Model S, Model X, or the top-end Cybertruck, known as the Cyberbeast.
Last year in August, Tesla introduced the “Luxe Package” for the Model S and Model X, which bundled premium features with the FSD software. This package came at an additional cost of $10,000 on top of the base price of the vehicles, with the FSD software alone priced at $8,000 at the time of discontinuation.
During the Q4 and full year 2025 Earnings Call, Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced the discontinuation of the Model S and Model X production in the second quarter of 2026. This means that customers interested in purchasing these vehicles have a limited time to take advantage of the FSD offer.
The prices of the Model S, Model X, and Cyberbeast models that include the FSD software are as follows:
– Tesla Model S AWD: $94,990
– Tesla Model S Plaid: $109,990
– Tesla Model X AWD: $99,990
– Tesla Model X Plaid: $114,990
– Cybertruck Cyberbeast: $114,990
One downside of the FSD software is that it is tied to the vehicle rather than the owner’s Tesla Account. This means that if a Tesla vehicle with FSD enabled is sold, the FSD software goes to the new owner as well. However, Tesla offers FSD Transfers from time to time to address this issue.
Tesla has also confirmed that it will consider the FSD software as a pricing factor when trading in older Teslas with FSD installed for the life of the vehicle. The FSD software has driven a total of 7.7 billion miles autonomously, with over 2.8 billion miles driven on city streets in the US and Canada.
In an email to customers, Tesla defined its Full Self-Driving AI vision as a system that uses external cameras to provide a 360-degree view of the surroundings, improving road safety by over 80% and helping to avoid potential injuries.
As Tesla continues to evolve its FSD technology, customers can expect more updates and features to enhance their driving experience. Stay tuned for the latest Tesla updates and news on platforms like Google News, Flipboard, Twitter, WhatsApp Channel, and RSS Feedly.
