Tesla has unveiled a new program called Supercharger for Business, allowing business owners to purchase and install Superchargers on their properties while Tesla manages operations. This initiative is designed to make it easier for businesses to offer convenient and reliable charging for electric vehicle (EV) drivers.
Under the Supercharger for Business program, site hosts can buy a minimum of four charging posts and have them installed with guidance from Tesla. The company will then take care of network operations, preventative maintenance, and driver support, ensuring 97% uptime — the highest in the industry. This turnkey solution aims to provide the same level of service and support as Tesla’s own Supercharger network.
Tesla emphasizes that Superchargers are compatible with all electric vehicles, making them a valuable asset for businesses looking to attract EV drivers. By offering a full-service package that includes operations and maintenance, Tesla aims to provide a seamless charging experience for both businesses and EV owners.
The Superchargers being offered to businesses are the latest V4 stalls, powered by V4 cabinets that can support up to eight stalls each. Customers will have access to features like live availability, trip planning, preconditioning for faster charging, and over-the-air software updates. Additionally, businesses hosting Superchargers will be listed on Tesla’s Supercharger map, providing visibility to EV drivers.
This shift in strategy for Tesla, which has traditionally funded the expansion of its Supercharger network using its own capital, reflects the company’s commitment to accelerating EV adoption. As more non-Tesla EVs gain access to Superchargers, expanding the network will be crucial to achieving Tesla’s vision of “Sustainable Abundance,” as outlined in its recently released Master Plan Part 4.
Business owners, ranging from gas stations to retail centers, now have the opportunity to not only host Superchargers but also fully own them. This flexibility could be a game-changer for businesses looking to support the growing EV market and enhance their offerings for customers.
Overall, Tesla’s Supercharger for Business program represents a significant step forward in the company’s efforts to build a robust charging infrastructure and promote the widespread adoption of electric vehicles. By partnering with businesses to expand the Supercharger network, Tesla is paving the way for a more sustainable transportation future.
