Tesla has officially started delivering its highly anticipated 2025 Model Y in China on February 26, 2025. The new Model Y comes with a host of updates that elevate its design, comfort, and functionality, setting a new standard for electric vehicles in the market. Production of the new Model Y was announced on February 17 at Giga Shanghai, marking a significant milestone for Tesla in the region.
The exterior of the new Model Y has been completely revamped, featuring a sleeker front fascia with a full-width LED light bar and split headlights, inspired by the design elements of the Cybertruck and Model 3 Highland. The rear of the vehicle boasts a reflective full-width taillight, a first for Tesla, along with a streamlined tailgate where the Tesla name seamlessly integrates into the light design. These changes not only enhance the overall aesthetic appeal of the Model Y but also contribute to improved aerodynamic efficiency by 4%, resulting in enhanced range and performance.
In terms of color options, the new Model Y introduces a stunning “Glacier Blue” paint color to its lineup, alongside standard colors like Stealth Grey and premium shades like Ultra Red. The addition of new wheel designs, including 19-inch Crossflow and 20-inch Helix 2.0, paired with noise-optimized tires, ensures a quieter and more comfortable ride for passengers. The hands-free tailgate feature now opens automatically as you approach the vehicle, adding convenience to the overall user experience.
Stepping inside the cabin of the new Model Y, passengers will be greeted with a host of upgrades designed to enhance comfort and utility. The front seats are now ventilated in addition to being heated, providing added luxury for drivers and passengers. The rear seats, split 60:40, can be folded flat and returned upright with the press of a button, allowing for easier cargo management and improved adult comfort. Rear passengers now have access to an 8-inch touchscreen for entertainment and climate control, with Bluetooth headset support for up to two users.
The interior of the new Model Y also features a configurable LED ambient lighting strip that runs through the cabin, adding a premium and customizable ambiance. Soft-touch vegan suede inserts and a refined dashboard elevate the material quality of the interior, while double-layer acoustic glass significantly reduces road noise. A 16-speaker audio system, with some speakers discreetly hidden, delivers immersive sound quality for an unparalleled audio experience.
On the performance and tech front, the Long Range All-Wheel Drive model of the new Model Y now achieves up to 320 miles of EPA-estimated range in the U.S., or 447 miles under China’s CLTC standard, thanks to aerodynamic improvements and efficiency gains. The suspension has been retuned, paired with updated tires and steering calibration, for a smoother and more responsive ride that strikes a balance between comfort and handling. A new 180-degree front bumper camera has been added to the nine-camera array, enhancing visibility for Autopilot and Full Self-Driving systems. The 15.4-inch center display runs on faster hardware, providing a seamless user experience.
Other notable features of the new Model Y include special “Launch” series exclusives for early buyers in select markets, such as unique badging on the liftgate, doorsill, and puddle lights, an Acceleration Boost for the Long Range AWD model, and a distinctive black vegan suede interior finish. With these updates and enhancements, the new Model Y is set to continue its reign as the world’s best-selling car, solidifying Tesla’s position as a leader in the electric vehicle market.
