If you were eagerly anticipating a long-range Tesla Cybertruck with the Range Extender option, you may be disappointed to learn that it has mysteriously disappeared from the online build tool. Reports suggest that the once-promised package is no longer available for selection, leaving Cybertruck enthusiasts questioning its fate.
For those who have been following the Cybertruck saga since its inception, this news may not come as a complete surprise. The initial promise of a 500-mile range Cybertruck for $70,000 has evolved into a reality of a 325-mile version priced at $80,000. When the truck finally hit the market in late 2023, Tesla hinted at an optional bed-mounted battery pack that would significantly increase the Cybertruck’s range, potentially reaching that coveted 500-mile mark.

The proposed range extender battery pack was expected to elevate the dual-motor model’s range to over 470 miles and push the tri-motor variant to over 440 miles. Customers were even offered the chance to reserve the Range Extender for an additional $2,000 shortly after the Cybertruck’s release. However, things took a turn for the worse.
Last year, Tesla made a subtle adjustment to its configuration tool, lowering the estimated range of the dual-motor model to “445+” miles and the tri-motor version to “415+.” Additionally, the price tag for the pack was revealed to be $16,000, with a projected launch in mid-2025. Despite these updates, the Range Extender option has now vanished from the selection menu, leaving many wondering about its fate.
While there is a possibility that Tesla is refining the package details in preparation for a relaunch, the sudden disappearance has left many skeptics questioning the company’s intentions. Whether the Range Extender will make a comeback or fade into obscurity remains to be seen, but for now, Cybertruck enthusiasts may have to temper their expectations.
