Tesla Cybertruck Recall
The Tesla Cybertruck is undergoing a recall due to a critical issue that could result in a loss of propulsion. This marks the sixth recall for the electric pickup truck since it was first delivered earlier this year.
The recall affects 2,431 vehicles and focuses on a potential fault in the inverters of the affected trucks. This fault could lead to an immediate loss of torque to the wheels, as reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
No warning precedes the loss of torque, but drivers will receive a dashboard display warning to safely pull over once the issue occurs. A lack of response from the accelerator pedal may also indicate a problem.
Tesla estimates that only 1% of the recalled vehicles actually have the fault, which has resulted in five warranty claims so far. While there have been no reported collisions, fatalities, or injuries related to this issue, Tesla is taking proactive measures to address it.
Unlike previous updates that could be done remotely, the remedy for this recall involves the replacement of the inverter, a service that Tesla will provide free of charge at their service centers. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed out on January 4, 2025, and owners can contact Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752 for further assistance. The reference number for this recall is SB-24-40-009.
This latest recall adds to the five previous recalls that the Cybertruck has experienced in the past 11 months. These recalls addressed various issues such as faulty wiper motors, loose trim, accelerator pedal concerns, and rearview camera delays.
