Tesla’s Cybertruck has just received a major update that will surely excite off-road enthusiasts. The electric pickup truck now comes equipped with an off-road mode that enhances its trail-ready capabilities. This update was announced by Tesla back in May, and now the automaker has released a video showcasing the off-road mode in action on the challenging trails of Moab.
The off-road mode includes three distinct drive modes that can be selected via the central touchscreen. These modes are Overland, Baja, and Wade. Overland mode is tailored for low-speed technical driving, while Baja mode is designed for high-speed driving over loose surfaces. Additionally, Baja mode features a touchscreen slider that allows drivers to adjust the handling balance, emphasizing stability or simulating a shorter wheelbase for tighter cornering and drifting.
One of the standout features of the off-road mode is the Wade mode, which raises the ride height of the Cybertruck and pumps pressurized air into the battery compartment to prevent water ingress. With Wade mode engaged, the Cybertruck can ford up to 32 inches of water, making it a formidable off-road vehicle. It’s worth noting that this feature is limited to 30 minutes at a time and may take up to 10 minutes to pressurize the battery compartment.
In addition to these software-based features, the Cybertruck also boasts mechanical locking differentials that can be controlled via the touchscreen. Dual-motor models come equipped with front and rear lockers that can be engaged separately, while the tri-motor Cybertruck features a front locker and simulates a rear locker using its two rear motors. This setup is similar to the tri-motor versions of the GMC Hummer EV.
The addition of the off-road mode adds another layer of capability to the Cybertruck, which has been a highly anticipated vehicle since its unveiling in 2019. The production model closely resembles the controversial looks of the concept version, but comes with a higher price tag and slightly reduced range. Nevertheless, the inclusion of the off-road mode showcases Tesla’s commitment to delivering a versatile and capable electric pickup truck.
Overall, the Cybertruck’s off-road mode update is a welcome addition for adventure seekers and off-road enthusiasts. With its advanced features and capabilities, the Cybertruck is set to make a mark in the electric vehicle market as a formidable off-road performer.
