The Tesla Cybertruck is set to receive new software features aimed at enhancing its off-road performance, catering to the desires of some owners who are seeking a more trail-ready vehicle. The upcoming update, as announced on the official Cybertruck account on X, will introduce an Off-Road Mode that combines various features to enhance capability without the need for any hardware changes.
One of the key additions in the software update is the introduction of Overland Mode and Baja Mode, which adjust vehicle characteristics to suit different terrains. Overland Mode is designed to optimize traction on surfaces like rock, gravel, deep snow, and sand, while Baja Mode focuses on improving vehicle balance and handling on loose surfaces. Additionally, the update will include Trail Assist, a feature that maintains a set speed during hill ascents and descents.
For dual-motor all-wheel-drive Cybertrucks, the update will enable the engagement of front and rear locking differentials. Tri-motor Cybertrucks will also benefit from this feature, with the front locking differential being activated and the two rear motors simulating a rear locker via software.
Furthermore, a Slippery Surface mode will be introduced to temporarily lock the rear differential on dual-motor trucks (simulated on tri-motor trucks) in instances of poor traction on pavement. The adaptive suspension of the Cybertruck will also receive new programming to accurately measure payloads and make necessary adjustments. Additionally, Tesla is adding a self-leveling feature to the suspension for camping purposes, similar to what Rivian has implemented in its R1 models through a previous software update.
In other news, Tesla is currently conducting a recall for the Cybertruck to address pedal trim pieces that could potentially come loose and cause unintended acceleration. This recall affects less than 4,000 vehicles, indicating that only a small number of Cybertrucks have been delivered thus far.
Overall, the upcoming software update for the Tesla Cybertruck promises to enhance its off-road capabilities and address safety concerns, further solidifying its position as a unique and innovative electric pickup truck on the market.
