Tesla Cybertruck Range Extender: Battery Size, Range, Price and Specs
During the Cybertruck event, Tesla unveiled the Cybertruck’s range extender, an optional accessory that is permanently attached to the truck’s bed. This innovative solution allows Tesla to keep the truck’s price competitive while also providing owners with the opportunity to extend the truck’s range to nearly 500 miles.
The Range Extender is designed to significantly increase the Cybertruck’s mileage, boosting the total range by approximately 35%. Unlike traditional methods that involve gasoline generators, Tesla’s Range Extender takes up about a third of the truck bed, striking a balance between functionality and cargo space.
Range / Battery Size
The Ranger Extender adds 120 miles to the Cybertruck’s total range (193 km). For the Cyberbeast model, it increases the range from 320 miles to 440 miles, while the AWD version sees an increase from 325 miles to 445 miles.
The Range Extender utilizes a large 47 kWh battery pack, explaining its size in the truck bed. In comparison, Tesla’s Standard Range+ Model 3 has a 54 kWh pack with a range of approximately 260 miles.
Price
Although the official pricing for the Range Extender has not been confirmed, it is expected to be around $16,000 USD. Evidence found on Tesla’s website indicated this price, but it is subject to change before the official release.
Size & Weight
The Ranger Extender fits snugly against the back of the Cybertruck’s bed, allowing easy loading of items. With a 47 kWh battery pack, the Range Extender adds weight to the truck, estimated at around 600 to 650 lbs (272 kg to 294 kg), reducing the towing capacity accordingly.
Installation
While some owners have proposed renting the Range Extender for trips, it is not a removable accessory. Tesla requires the Range Extender to be installed by Tesla Service, and it is considered a permanent modification. Owners must choose between additional range or cargo space.
Availability / Release Date
Originally expected to be available for pre-order customers in early 2025, the Range Extender’s release has been delayed to mid-2025. This delay may be due to Tesla’s focus on perfecting its dry-cathode battery process and ensuring sufficient supply for vehicle production.
As Tesla continues to innovate with the Cybertruck and its battery technology, the Range Extender remains a highly anticipated accessory for extending the truck’s range and functionality.
